How to build an effective website

Effective websites start with a clear purpose in mind and are designed to deliver on a small range of key objectives. Communications are focused according to a unique selling proposition and are derived seamlessly from existing branding. The website design is clean and easy to navigate. Everything is user focused, meaningful, and designed to deliver maximum value for the consumer.

It seems there are endless questions to consider when developing a website and most of us don’t have the time to become experts with technology or the Internet. What you need to remember is that you don’t need to become an expert to effectively develop a website for your business. However, you do need the knowledge to be able to manage the people who do and the opportunities associated with this medium.

As a business manager you need to find out how to use a website and the Internet to improve your business. A website can reduce costs and increase sales. It can be used as a promotional and sales tool, an efficiency tool, or both. It can tie in with call to action promotions or act as a stand alone marketing medium. Find the people who understand the Internet and have answers to your questions, and get them on board working for your business.

In many instances, websites have rapidly become the first point of contact with customers, especially in the service, professional and travel industries. Consumers use the Internet to search for products and services everyday. Some of your biggest leads will come through the Internet I guarantee it. If this isn’t happening for you its time to review the performance of what you have and make some modifications to get better results.

Consumers expect the same level of professionalism from a website as they do from your staff and your print materials. Your website should be a living representation of what you want your business to look like now and into the future.
